Valentine's Day a Season of Love

Posted Friday February 9, 2024

The "Season of Love" is fast approaching, adorned with the iconic red and pink hues, it is a perfect opportunity to reflect on a different kind of love-- one that extends far beyond the romantic narratives often associated with Valentine's Day.

In Dickinson County, a community nestled in the heart of Kansas, this love takes the form of unwavering support, kindness, and a shared commitment to the well-being of its residents. It is a love that binds us together, transcending personal relationships to encompass the entire community.

One of the ways this enduring spirit of community love finds a powerful expression is through the tireless efforts of the Community Foundation of Dickinson County. For the past 25 years, this foundation has been a pillar of support, fostering a culture of compassion that radiates through every corner of our community. As we take a moment to celebrate love this Valentine's Day, it is only fitting to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the generous donors who have consistently contributed to the Foundation's resolute cause.

This past year, the impact is evident in the support extended to childcare centers across the county. From Herington to Hope, Abilene to Solomon, and Chapman, the Foundation has played a pivotal role in ensuring that these centers are here for our families. The nurturing environment provided by these centers is essential for the growth and development of our youngest community members, setting the foundation for a brighter future.

But the Foundation's love does not stop there. It is an all-encompassing force that reaches every aspect of our community's tapestry. The support for animals reflects a deep understanding of life's interconnectedness, recognizing that our furry friends' well-being is intricately linked to our own. Did you know the foundation has funds to support our furry companions? From arts and culture to community development, the Foundation stands as a steadfast supporter, recognizing the importance of enriching our lives beyond the basic necessities.

We want to ensure our seniors, the pillars of wisdom and experience within our community, receive the attention they deserve. The Community Foundation has granted to the Dickinson County Senior Coalition to ensure that programming is available for seniors. Our seniors are not forgotten; we want to weave a safety net of support and love around them. In doing so, they remind us that community love is intergenerational, transcending age and time.

As we express our gratitude to the donors who have fueled the Foundation's endeavors over the years, we also celebrate the ripple effect of their contributions. The love that they have poured into our community has manifested stronger, more resilient child care centers, special arts and culture programming, enhanced community development, and a dignified and cared-for senior population, just to name a few support areas.

This Valentine's Day, let us extend our appreciation to those who have made it possible for Dickinson County residents to love and care for one another in such a profound way. Through the Community Foundation of Dickinson County, the love we share becomes a force for positive change, radiating outward and leaving an incredible mark on the heart of our community. May we continue to nurture and grow this love, ensuring that Dickinson County remains a shining example of the power of community compassion. Happy Valentine's Day.
