Food 4 Kids was established for students who are food insecure and who are not getting sufficient food outside of school on a regular basis. The Abilene High School Class of 1957 Scholarship was established in 1999 when classmates of the graduating class of 1957 “passed the hat” at their class reunion. This scholarship is a legacy to the Ballantyne family. Sandra Ballantyne Canfield and her husband, Tom, originally established the scholarship in loving memory of her parents, Dave and Maxine Ballantyne, in 2001. Dave and Maxine lived and farmed in Dickinson County, east of Navarre, where they raised their family, Karen, Kenny, and Sandra. They have since renamed the scholarship to include Kenny, who passed away in 2011, and Karen in 2017. At that time, it became The Ballantyne family scholarship.Donate to this fund

Bill and Vicky Miller raised their three sons on the family farm in Dickinson County. They have established this scholarship in the loving memory of their oldest son, Beau Miller, known for his auto body restoration talent. Betty Carlson Memorial Scholarship Fund
Betty (Anderson) Carlson was born in Salina, Kansas, and grew to womanhood on a farm north of Salina. She graduated from Salina High School. Unable to attend college due to finances, she attended trade school for accounting. She and her husband purchased a funeral home in Solomon and then El Dorado, Kansas, in 1974. She was a licensed funeral director for over 50 years and was very involved in her community, serving on numerous non-profit boards as a director and officer. She received the Emma White Distinguished Award and Chamber Good Neighbor Award in recognition of her selfless work. After her husband's death, Gene Carlson, she was involved with Butler Community College in a number of scholarships for business and music. During the period in which she lived in Solomon, she was active in church, community, and school events. She raised her family consisting of three boys and one girl, all of whom pursued higher education. Betty would be honored to know that her legacy continues by cDonate to this fund

Carly Marie Gassman Scholarship
The Carly Marie Gassman Scholarship was established in 2014 in memory of Carly Gassman, who died at the early age of 18 after battling a cancerous brain tumor for two years. A 2013 graduate of Abilene High School, Carly was incredibly active as a student. She was a three-sport, all-league athlete and a member of the Student Council, FCA, and several other organizations. A lifelong Wildcat fan, Carly attended Kansas State University and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Her illness strengthened her desire to become a member of the healthcare industry, and she chose a degree in nursing. Carly was an excellent student at all levels and was very committed to her education. She received numerous scholarships for her academics and was extremely grateful for all she received. Charles Wilson grew up in Abilene, Kansas, and after graduating from K-State with his bachelor's, master's, then doctoral degree, moved to California, where he has had a distinguished career as a nuclear engineer. Beginning before 1940, the farm families in the Willowdale Township wanted to get together once a month to enjoy dinner and fellowship. Approximately 50 friends gathered and celebrated birthdays, holidays and special events. Members are now approximately 24 and they meet every other month in Abilene to carry on this tradition. Mills Family Scholarship Fund
Mills Family Scholarship Michael and Mary Mill (later changed to Mills) came to the United States in the 1860s from Germany and settled near Peru, Illinois. In 1875, they moved to a small farm just west of Enterprise, KS, along the Smoky Hill River. (Their farm continues to be owned by the Mills family.) Michael died just one year later, leaving Mary and her small son, Frank, to continue farming. Frank continued to farm and he and his wife, Anna, were the parents of eight children. Five of their sons lived to be adults, and the farming tradition carried on. Today, there are five farmers in Dickinson County that are fifth-generation descendants of Michael and Mary Mills. The Mills Family Scholarship was established to honor their legacy of farming and to encourage young men and women to continue their education in the field of agriculture.Donate to this fund

Vic and Nadine Viola Scholarship
In keeping with the ideals of the late Mr. Vic Viola, Sr., and his wife, Nadine, the family established the Vic and Nadine Viola Scholarship Fund. Vic and Nadine were always interested in young people, especially in academic and athletic pursuits. The family will award a scholarship to an Abilene High School graduating senior. This scholarship was originally established in 1971 upon the death of Mr. Viola and has been awarded annually since that time. The scholarship is intended to help make college attendance a reality for a deserving student.
